Areas of Covington
|
Covington,
the largest city in Northern Kentucky, is known for the redevelopment
of its river front, skyline and urban core. It is a vital and
creative city, just steps across the Ohio River from downtown
Cincinnati. Below are some of the prime attractions of this vibrant
community.
The Arts
Between the formation of Covington's Arts District and existing
creative venues, you'll never find more art to appreciate! The
CARNEGIE
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTER is a multidisciplinary arts
venue for all ages. THE
BAKER HUNT ART AND CULTURAL FOUNDATION is available for classes
in pottery, photography and more...

from your new condo and leave your car behind! Don't miss the
dozens of corner bars, restaurants and shops where you'll be sure
to find a friendly face. MainStrasse retains its authentic German
Village feel with its cobblestone, tree-lined streets. Annual
festivals include: Maifest, Oktoberfest, Mardi Gras and of course
Goetta Fest... Each month partake in First Friday Gallery Hop
and Second
Sunday Antiques Marketplace (seasonal)...

The Basilica of the Assumption Cathedral

The Basilica
is a splendid replica of Notre Dame Catholic Church, and features
gargoyles and flying buttresses. Go for a tour and marvel at the

detail.

Devou Park
Devou Park has the BEST view of any point in the Greater Cincinnati
area! Nestled in a secluded 600 acre area overlooking the Ohio
River and the Cincinnati Skyline, there is more to do here than
anywhere else you will find! Visit the Drees Pavilion, the Behringer-Crawford
Museum, book a tee time on the golf
course, listen to the Symphony in the band shell, or enjoy
the playgrounds, tennis courts and walking and biking trails.

Traveling
Take a short road trip to Lexington or Louisville, both are less
than 100 miles away.
Renaissance Covington
Renaissance Covington, Inc. is a 501(C) 3 nonprofit organization
that was created for the purpose of revitalizing downtown Covington.
The goal is to make downtown economically viable by capitalizing
on our rich stock of historic buildings while identifying ways
to meet the needs of our contemporary society. Renaissance Covington
follows the Main Street four-point approach, which includes design,
organization, promotion, and economic restructuring.
Design: Enhancing the physical appearance of downtown by rehabilitating
historic buildings, encouraging supportive new construction, adhering
to design guidelines, and upgrading public spaces. Organization:
Building consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals
who have a role in this revitalization process. Promotion: Marketing
the traditional commercial district's assets to customers, potential
investors, new businesses, local citizens, and visitors. Economic
Restructuring: Strengthening the district's existing economic
base while finding ways to expand it to meet new opportunities
and challenges from outlying development. For more information

Covington Arts District
In January of 2005, the plans for the development of the Covington
Arts District where presented to the public and approved by the
Covington City Commission in May. It is a plan for economic rebirth,
community revitalization, and more importantly, a catalyst for
an increased presence of artists and all types of art in our city.
The City has devised a strategy for development of a district
that is distinctly unique to Covington. Three areas have been
designated in the Arts District and include the Covington Arts
and Technology Zone (CATZ), the Covington Artists Residential
District (CARD), and the Covington Cultural Heritage District
(CCHD). A set of incentives have been designed by the city to
meet the goals of each particular area. Many of these may be used
in conjunction with the great incentives package the city's Economic
Development and Housing Departments already have available. www.covingtonarts.com
